LSM E-News ~ April 2021
LSM Class of 2021 Experiences Public Safety in Southern Maryland On April 1, 2021, the Leadership Southern Maryland (LSM) Class of 2021 participated in the fifth of nine educational sessions – Public Safety. The day was spent at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center in Prince Frederick, Maryland and was led by Cpl. Bill Rector LSM’19, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
After a welcome by several Calvert County public safety representatives, the class received a brief on 911 call center operations and training practices. Next, they got up close and personal with several fire apparatus and watched a variety of demonstrations including a vehicle extrication. During the lunch break, emergency personnel were on hand for a Q&A session discussing a wide range of topics like human trafficking and Calvert County’s mobile crisis team initiative.
The afternoon portion of the day kicked off with the Tri-County Sheriffs Panel featuring Assistant Sheriff Dave McDowell (Calvert), Sheriff Troy Berry (Charles), and Sheriff Tim Cameron (St. Mary’s). Afterward, the class watched several police demonstrations including K9 and drone teams in action. They finished out the day with a visit from Trooper 2, getting an in-depth look at the helicopter and its personnel’s mission and capabilities.
