Volunteer for the Professional Services Hub

After graduation, Leadership Southern Maryland graduates and alumni can continue to support nonprofit organizations in our community through a new partnership with the Nonprofit Institute at the College of Southern Maryland.  The two organizations have teamed up to create the Professional Services Hub, a resource for local nonprofits to tap into the professional expertise of LSM alumni at no initial charge.  So far, the program is offering basic legal, accounting/financial, and insurance-related counsel, thanks to volunteers who have already stepped up.  The goal is to add marketing and public relations support, as well as other fields.

Volunteers are needed.  If you have professional expertise and are willing to make a two-year commitment to provide pro bono services through the Professional Services Hub, contact your local Nonprofit Institute at CSM coordinator:  Harriet Yaffe in St. Mary's County at hyaffe@csmd.edu or Cara Fogarty in Charles County at cfogarty@csmd.edu.

Class of 2019 Learns About Healthcare

January 17 was the LSM Class of 2019 Healthcare session sponsored by The Chesapeake-Potomac Healthcare Alliance.

The goals of this session were to enhance awareness of challenges and regional opportunities for providing healthcare
in our communities; to gain an understanding of the region’s community hospitals and how they collaborate with other agencies
and to get a better sense of services available in Southern Maryland.

The class started the day with a panel discussion on "Healthcare Challenges in Southern Maryland" with representatives
from Calvert Health System, CalvertHealth Foundation, University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation, Inc. and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Then the class received presentations from Walden Behavioral Health and Health Partners, Inc. The participants continued onto a tour of Recovery Centers of America Maryland Center for Addiction Treatment and Sagepoint Senior Living Services. Following the tours, the class heard briefs from the Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home, Operation: Tohidu and Hospice of Charles County.  They ended the day with a Public & Community Health Issues panel discussion with Health Officers from all three counties. The day concluded with a social gathering at Prime Street Grille.
