EMERGING LEADERS (LEAP) PROGRAM

Kickstart Your Collaborative Capabilities with Emerging Leaders

Whether you’re a born leader or self-made, the Leadership Southern Maryland Emerging Leaders Program (LEAP) provides a series of six “experiences,” to facilitate, foster, and refine your individual leadership understanding and abilities via structured course curriculum focused on self-discovery, teamwork, and networking.

What Does the Program Include?

The class size will be limited to 25 participants, who will be selected based on the information provided in their application or nomination. Participants must:

Live OR work in Calvert, Charles, or St. Mary’s County
Be at least 21 years old
Have a minimum of three years of work experience
Demonstrate community involvement
Have full support of the organization he or she represents

Enhances a participant’s teamwork skills and provides the opportunity to collaborate with peers
Provides an open and accepting environment for participants to grow as they build their own diverse network of colleagues

What to Expect

Full participation in each of the six “experiences,” generally from 8:00am until 5:30pm (including a social/networking hour)
Participation in service projects that will be completed outside of classroom hours
Attendance at all LEAP program sessions; those who miss more than one (1) program day (8 total hours) will be ineligible to complete the program and will forfeit their tuition.

Tuition

Class tuition of $1,950 per participant by check or $2,150 by credit card (applicants may secure the sponsorship of a business/organization to pay the tuition)
Tuition may be paid online or by mailing a check to Leadership Southern Maryland, P. O. Box 524, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
Payment plans are available, and arrangements may be made with the LSM office.

Class of 2022 LEAP Session Dates

Participation is critical to the success of the Emerging Leaders Program, therefore missing one session day (or 8 hours) prevents a participant from graduating from the LSM program.

January 21, 2022 – Packet pick-up
January 28, 2022 – Session 1 (mandatory)
February 25, 2022 – Session 2
March 25, 2022 – Session 3
April 22, 2022 – Session 4
May 13, 2022 – Session 5
June 24, 2022 – Session 6

Class of 2024 LEAP Sessions

January 12, 2024 – Orientation (mandatory)
January 26, 2024 – Personal Leadership Mastery
February 23, 2024 – Mentoring and Networking Relationships
March 29, 2024 – Resilience and Stress Management
April 26, 2024 – Communication and Diversity
May 10, 2024 – Steward Leadership and LEAP Service Day
June 21, 2024 – Closing Retreat and Graduation

Tuition

Class tuition of $2,500 per participant by check or $2,700 by credit card. Most participants secure the sponsorship of a business/organization to pay the tuition. A limited number of scholarships are available for participants from 501(c)(3) nonprofits and small businesses (< 15 employees).

Payment plans are available. Arrangements may be made with the LSM office.

Information Sessions

LEAP Information Sessions provide applicants with a more complete understanding of the program and the application process. They are also a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and to meet LEAP alumni and LSM Board members.
